Average wedding costs pass £30,000 mark

The average amount of money currently being spent by Muslim families on weddings in the UK has increased to more than £30,000. Research carried out recently has found that Muslim wedding budgets have increased dramatically over the past five years. The rise has been linked to the glamour of Bollywood films, British celebrity culture, and increased spending power. Latest figures for the cost of the average European (white) wedding range from £10,000 to £20,000. However, Muslim weddings are big business in Britain, with the market worth in excess of £300 million a year and rising. It is very noticeable that more and more companies which specifically cater for these events are springing up all over the country. One prominent wedding dress designer said that the amount of money being spent on dresses has risen very sharply. She said that: “Girls used to spend £1,000 - £1,500 on dresses two to three years ago. But last year saw them escalating to between £2,000 and £2,500. And this year, I have seen a lot of difference. I have seen girls not even blinking when I say this is £3,000 - £4,000 or more.”
