Drug dealer slammed with jail

A 21-year-old man has been jailed for two and a half years for drug dealing and dangerous driving.

Yousuf Islam sped off from the police while on bail for peddling heroin and crack cocaine, Bradford Crown Court heard today.

Islam, of Padma Close, Lidget Green, Bradford, pleaded guilty to supplying class A drugs in Manningham in 2007.

He admitted possessing £210 cash as criminal property when he was arrested.

Islam then drove dangerously and made off without paying for £43 of petrol on September 2 last year.

Prosecutor David McGonigal said drugs officers caught Islam selling one wrap each of heroin and crack cocaine at 9.30am on August 22, 2007.

In his possession was the money and three mobile phones contaminated with the drugs.

More than a year later, and still on bail, Islam took his father’s car without permission and fitted a stolen registration plate, the court heard.

He and his passenger filled the car with fuel at a Tesco garage and drove off without paying.

Police spotted the car in Beckside Road, Lidget Green, doing more than twice the legal 30mph limit Mr McGonigal said.

Mr McGonigal said he collided with two vehicles, sped through a red light and drove over a flower bed.

Police stopped their pursuit from safety concerns and later found the car abandoned, the court heard. Islam was arrested later that day.

Ken Green said in mitigation that Islam was on the bottom rung of the drug dealing fraternity as a delivery boy.

He had a full driving licence and was a hard working man who had brought shame on the good name of his family.

He was jailed for two years for the drugs offences and six months on top of that for dangerous driving. He was banned from driving for 18 months.
